The DDR-40 Dataset (1980-2020)
Why do armed forces remobilize? Which factors explain success or failure in disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration (DDR) programs? Which concurrent peacebuilding efforts have the greatest impact on DDR outcomes? To answer these questions, I created DDR-40, a pioneering global dataset of the population of DDR programs (1980-2020). The dataset identifies 83 programs (408 program-years) and presents them as counting process data with 57 yearly covariates. Please find the working paper on the link below.
The first set of variables capture program features:
- targeted groups
- membership size
- cantonment period
- disarmament implementation
- demobilization implementation
- reintegration implementation
- program budget
- implementation bodies
- program outcomes.
